COMESA is one of the eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs) recognized by the African Union. COMESA has put in place a trade and investment agenda which include various trade and transport facilitation instruments. As a leading economic grouping in the region, COMESA pursuant to its Chapter 3 Article 4, develops and implements various trade, transport and transit facilitation instruments, such as: The Yellow Card Scheme. In this regard, the Yellow Card has been playing a critical role in facilitating the Smooth Movement of vehicles, goods and persons and ensuring payment of compensation to road accident victims caused by transiting motorists guided by the Protocol on the Establishment of the Yellow Card Scheme, Annex II of the COMESA Treaty and the COMESA Medium Term Strategic Plan- 2021-2025; Strategic Objective 1: Market Integration.
